Horseshoe Dutch Oven Holder Welding Project

If your idea of camping involves cooking over an open flame in a dutch oven, this welding project is for you. This horseshoe welding project calls for some simple supplies and a basic equipment list including a welder, metal cutting saw, grinder, wire cup and steel brushes, clamps, and pliers.

Here’s your supply list:

  • 3 horseshoes (new or used)
  •  9 inch steel rod,1/2 inch diameter
  • Spray enamel that can hold up to high heat.

You’ll want to be sure to clean and prep your horseshoes before welding, removing rust and nails. Weld your shoes in a triangle arrangement before attaching your 3, 3 inch feet. This project is not only useful for camping, it can be used at home and makes for a great gift as well.

Ultimate Marshmallow Stick Welding Project

No camping trip is complete without several evenings of sticky, delicious marshmallows and s’mores. We’ve found the best marshmallow or hot dog roasting fork welding project, complete with a sleek look and ergonomic wooden handle. This project calls for a basic MIG welder, drill press, grinder, bolt cutters, and a dead blow hammer.

Roasting Fork Supply List (For a set of 2)

  • 3/4″ copper pipe caps (x4)
  • 1″ walnut dowel
  • 1/4″ steel rod (36″)
  • 3/16″ steel rod (48″)
  • Cutting board oil (or other food safe oil)

Start by creating your handle, with 1 copper pipe cap on each end. Not only will this add style to your roasting fork, it keeps your raw wood ends covered for safety. Move through the welding project by shaping and welding the branches of your welding “stick” before attaching it to your handle. Finish by sanding or blasting your metal to ensure your marshmallows come out clean and free from unwanted residue.

Rocket Stove Welding Project

Whether you’re cooking up pancakes, burgers, or some freshly caught lake trout, every campsite needs a solid place to cook. The rocket stove is a brilliant and simple design making it an ideal novice welding project. To get started, you’ll need square or round steel tube stock, ¼ inch steel rod, and some scraps of flat bar or angle iron.

Begin by cutting your steel tube with your metal chop saw according to the specs and size and spec you want for your stove. Next, weld your top and bottom pieces together at a 90° angle and add in your shelf to create combustion. Finish your rocket stove by shaping and attaching your steel rods or flat bar at the top to hold your pots and pans as you cook.
